While lying on the beach the other day my 6 year old daughter turned to my 5 year old son and said: “Pinch me, I think I’m dreaming!” I asked her why to which she replied “Our new home is so awesome it MUST be a dream!” I smiled widely and wholeheartedly agreed with her.

Since I’ve blogged last we were located primarily in Ann Arbor Michigan. We’ve recently relocated to the Lambton Shores area located near Sarnia Ontario. We were fortunate to get a wonderful home situated right across from the Lake.

Part of the fun of moving to a new area is exploring and discovering life where you are, I love this part of the move. We’ve only been here for three weeks, but so far I already have faves! So, I’ve compiled this handy top 5 list if you ever visit or are passing through the area:

1. Grand Bend – We are a 20 minute drive from Grand Bend which is AWESOME! We’ve already ventured there twice. So far my Grand Bend family faves is the AWESOME park and splash-pad located off the main strip on the beach. We also took the kiddos to Aunt Gussies for breakfast which was DELISH and they even made a special request “Eggle Bagel” for our daughter Miss Maggie Rose. (to her utter delight!)

2. Canterra Park – We’ve only just scratched the surface of this massive park! There are several awesome playgrounds to choose from, and it is located on the water. It’s pretty neat to hear the large ship horns bellow every now and then. They also have  beach area here. I look forward to taking the kids back here for a picnic (there are plenty of BBQ’s picnic tables and covered picnic areas available). Apparently there is also a children’s animal farm there too which we are looking forward to checking out.

3. Paddy O’Flaherty’s Sarnia – WOW! What an awesome location to grab a pint right at the main marina! They also have great live music some evenings. I can see this quickly becoming a frequented spot.

4. The People – I’ve decided that when you live near the lake it inevitably makes you the happiest person ever. I’ve never encountered so many happy, helpful, friendly and genuine people in any other place I’ve lived, but let’s be honest how pissy can you really be while experiencing #lakelife.

5. Endless Beaches – There are so many beaches to choose from! We were lucky enough to move to an area called Blue Point which allows us access to a private beach. The beach is sandy, with some pebbles. The water is clear, clean and calm. There is even a park along the way to the beach so often we stop for a play and then hit up the beach.

Given our new location I’ll be posting all about life at the lake. I look forward to exploring our new home and embracing this dream-worthy #lakelife

  1. Great article Jess…. My husband and I moved to Ridgeway/Crystal Beach 4 years ago. We are on the south coast of Lake Erie, and just a kilometre up from a public beach. We love it. And I must admit, we are both very happy here.
We love the smell in the air, the lake breeze, the quaint small town shops and restaurants…. Even our very own unique microbrewery and concert hall where we recently saw Dear Rouge play for a mere 10.00.
We love biking to the beach, walking the beach, listening to the waves. We love it all. And we both agree, at the end of our work day, when we are sitting on our back porch taking in the lake scented air, we honestly feel like we are on vacation.

I must also confess, we especially like our proximity to the Buffalo boarder. In just 10 minutes we feel like we are a world away, taking in the arts, and entertainment and dining and culture of a big city, but with a community feel.

    Cheers

    • Thanks for sharing your #lakelife Alyssa! We are also fortunate that we are very close to the Michigan border so have access to the Detroit airport for travel, Port Huron for shopping etc. Here’s to both of our awesome summers coming up at the lake! 🙂

  2. well we are so happy you are adjusting beautifully to life on this side of the border. Even better still it seems the kids enjoy it! Come visit us one day soon!
